About

About tailsnow

TailsNow is a small, independent project. A coin flip is the whole of what we do here: it flips a fair virtual coin with a real flip animation and tracks the head and tail history. There is no account to create, no email to hand over, and no paywall hiding behind the third advert.

What TailsNow is for

There is no shortage of everyday-utility tools online; what is scarce is one that respects your time. TailsNow is deliberately narrow — it flips a fair virtual coin with a real flip animation and tracks the head and tail history and stops there. A small, honest tool beats a sprawling page that buries the answer under advertising.

How it works

No server is involved in the arithmetic. It draws each flip from the browser's cryptographically secure random source rather than a pseudo-random seed, so the sequence is not predictable from earlier flips, and it reports the running ratio of heads to tails so a fair coin visibly converges. We state the method openly because a tool that cannot explain its own answer is not much use to anyone trying to trust it.

What happens to your input

Nothing you enter is transmitted. Nothing — the flip happens on your device is handled by the page on your own machine, which is why TailsNow has no server-side copy to lose, leak or hand over — and why it still works once you go offline.

Who uses it

How this stays free

TailsNow is free to use and supported by advertising. Adverts are kept off the working part of the page, and no advertiser receives anything you type. If a page ever becomes slow or intrusive, that is a bug worth reporting.
